What I love about Ophir are the buildings, there wouldn't be many halls in towns that are called the Peace Memorial Hall as opposed to the War Memorial Hall. Our hall is used on a regular basis for monthly films - BYO drinks and nibbles.....a great selection of movies, some we remembered when we were courting!! There is the annual Easter Pot luck dinner with an auction which is a great night with music from the locals and the night is long.
This last year there has been ceidehl which was such a success, it will become an annual event on the Saturday of Queens Birthday weekend. We hosted the pre-Ceidehl dinner and the piper came and piped the diners to the hall!
There also has been amazing weddings - country style smart, very memorable and talked about for long after the event!!
There is a great little library in the meeting room which is available to all residents and holidaymakers alike.
There will be ongoing improvements to enable more usage of the hall.
These halls have to be used and upgraded otherwise they will just deteriorate and be lost to the towns. Our one isn't the prettiest town hall (or one making an architectural statement) you have ever seen but it has an amazing sprung floor, cute supper room and it still has the projector room which isn't used for films as technology has taken over from the old equipment.
This year the kitchen has been up-graded and is very smart.
