What our customers say

Wonderful building, awesome hospitality and food We stayed overnight while riding the Central Otago Rail Trail. This is a really well restored and extended building that is completely at home in its surroundings. Great amenities, good wifi, and a peaceful feel- everything you could want on a night in the country. Dinner in the restaurant was a culinary delight. Fresh, flavorsome, good portion sizes and really good coffee. I would stay there again in a flash!

The room was clean and comfortable for our one night stay. Great products in the bathrooms. The breakfast room and restaurant bar were excellent. Lovely garden and spa pool for those aching after a day's travel. We were staying in the shoulder season so there were not many guests giving us plenty of opportunities to mix with the fellow guests and hosts. The food was excellent and not what you would typically expect of a remote location. I understand that the hosts will pick you up from the Rail Trail which runs about 3 km away and drop you back off if you are staying nearer to the Trail but why not stay here. And all so peaceful.

We stayed at the luxury accommodation, in a twin share room upstairs. This architectural Heritage award winning cafe, restaurant, and accommodation is a must! There are 6 beautifully appointed rooms with ensuites available. so at the maximum 12 people staying. we were lucky to be the only people staying on this occasion. I would definitely stay here again. A wonderful spot to recover after a day cycling on the Otago rail trail. The spa and most comfortable beds, just a treat.

Clean, friendly, delicious, comfortable, historical, impressive place! And the owner and staff are so friendly. I would eat, drink and sleep here again in a heartbeat. Thank you Bike It Now! tours for recommending it.

We spent one night at the Pitches store in Ophir - our bed was very comfortable and the room had a little area outside where we relax. Breakfast the next morning was plentiful and delicious. Colleen our host made us feel at home and was lovely - gave us great tips about things to see on our way to Queenstown. A nice little gem in the middle of nowhere.

We travelled to Ophir from Dunedin for a weekend getaway, to enjoy wonderful weather, and for an experience that is not the usual Queenstown thing that we always fall into. Pitches Store was an excellent choice, the weekend was relaxing, the accommodation was immaculately clean, the spa was amazingly relaxing (having almost decided we couldn't be bothered doing it, we were pleased that we did!), the bed was extremely comfortable, dinner (6 course degustation) was superb, and breakfast was a great start to the day.Colleen and David were excellent hosts, and we had a wonderful time.

The Pitches store is an old building from the late 1800's but it now has 6 rooms and a restaurant. Our room was in the back and had a nice view. Ophir was a gold mining town that once had 1,000 residents but now there are only 50 people there.
